Carrara
Carrara is located in the Northwestern part of Tuscany at the feet of the Apuan Alps facing the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is famous worldwide for its marble quarries, from which the valuable and greatly appreciated "white marble of Carrara" is extracted.
This type of marble was used by Michelangelo himself, many times going himself to Carrara's quarries to personally select the raw material from which to carve out his masterpieces.
