Casentino

The Casentino is a long valley located in northeastern Tuscany. Monte Falterona, at its northern edge, gives birth to the spring that becomes the principal river in the region, the Arno River, which goes through Florence and Pisa.
The Casentino includes many small and characteristic towns, all within the province of Arezzo. This area presents a rich vegetation and beautiful, centuries old forests which are part of the National Park of the Casentino Forests.
There are many interesting places to visit in the Casentino area: small villages, ancient feudal castles (such as the Porciano castle) and beautiful Romanesque churches. Two important historical worship sites are located in this area, the Verna Sanctuary (where Saint Francis of Assisi retired to pray) and the Eremo di Camaldoli, a Benedictine monk hermitage.

Presents the main towns in the region, with information on suggested itineraries, sights to see and services for visiting the area.
	EcoMuseum of the Casentino - www.ecomuseo.casentino.toscana.it - Site for the Casentino region's ecological museums whose objective is to document, conserve and value the region's history. The site presents the regulations that govern the museum system, current research projects and details on the various centers which form part of the museum. The centers dedicated to the territory's Water system, Forests and Agriculture are just a few that form part of the EcoMuseo.
	Casentino Forest National Park - www.parks.it/parco.nazionale.for.casentinesi - The site for the National Park of the Casentino Forest also covers Mt. Falterona and Campigna, located on the northeastern border of Tuscany. The site presents general details of the protected area, with itineraries to visit the park and an outline of services available to visitors. Another section highlights summer programs and other planned events during the year and another has details on typical products of the area.
	Casentino Study Abroad - www.casentinostudyabroad.net - Program for international students, located in Casentino, that offers classes on italian language, humanities and political science.
