Mugello

The Mugello is the area that spreads from northern Florence to the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. The landscape is rich and varied, including woods of beech, fir and oak chestnut trees as well as vineyards and cultivated fields.
The Medici and Lorraine families built beautiful villas, castles and fortresses in the Mugello that even today can be admired - an example is the Palazzo dei Vicari in the city of Scarperia.
The artistic and cultural patrimony of the Mugello is characterized by numerous country parish churches, churches and abbeys and small museums that have been set up to showcase the area's local history and traditions.
The town of Vicchio in Mugello is the birthplace of the painter Beato Angelico, who created the famous frescoes in the convent of San Marco in Florence.
The Mugello offers interesting places for sport and nature lovers, including the famous Mugello International Race Track and the Lake of Bilancino, an artificial lake which offers facilities for many outdoor sports.
